Clonakilty Walking Group, based in Clonakilty, West Cork, Ireland,
was set up by a group of friends who love the freedom of hillwalking
and gathered an even greater number of people about them who wished to
join in on a regular basis.
The main mountains and
hills climbed are of course the mountains of Cork and Kerry as they are
so close to us here in Clonakilty.
At certain times of the year our planned walks take us further afield, around Ireland and also around the world.
Many
group members have joined up with expeditions abroad and have climbed
in such places as The Himalayas, The Andes, The Alps, Kilimanjaro, The
Caucus Mountain Range of Russia, Scotland, and The Lake District, to
name but a few.
The number of walkers joining local
walks increased over time so the group decided to become members of the
Mountaineering Council of Ireland, and now all fully paid up members of
our group become fully paid up members of the MCI also. |
